Genesis of a Grassroots Movement

The Beginning of a Transformative Journey...

In 1996-97, a group of dynamic and socially conscious youths joined hands with grassroots movements like Lok Samiti, Lok Shakti, Jharkhand Jangal Bachao Aandolan, and others across Giridih and Madhupur. Through training and activism under organizations like Judav and Jago Foundation, they became deeply engaged in development work and socio-cultural reform. Inspired by the experiences and guidance of their seniors, they expanded their focus to the mica-mining areas of Koderma, where child labour, gender inequality, and deforestation were rampant. Despite financial hardships and societal resistance, these individuals remained committed to their mission of change, setting the foundation for a structured and impactful community movement.

Expanding the Circle of Change

The Journey and Reach of Samarpan

Born from a deep commitment to social transformation, Samarpan began its journey in the Koderma district of Jharkhand. Over the years, it has expanded its presence across multiple districts, working closely with tribal communities, small and marginal farmers, rural youth, women, and artisans. The organization places special focus on school and college dropouts, survivors of child labour, and communities with limited access to development opportunities and government schemes. Through its interventions, Samarpan not only strengthens livelihoods and social inclusion but also actively promotes local governance by encouraging community participation in institutions like Gram Sabhas and other grassroots platforms. By building awareness, leadership, and access to entitlements, Samarpan continues to empower communities to become active stakeholders in their own development and decision-making processes.
